Teesside based Helius Energy plc has its sights on reducing greenhouse gasses (GHG’s) with plans to co-locate and integrate its biomass systems with readily available feedstocks and excellent infrastructure.
The company intends to develop several sites in the UK at a 65MWe scale of operation and its first site is at Stallingborough, on the South side of the Humber Estuary. The scale of the operation is such that it will require around 350,000 dry tonnes of biomass feedstock annually for each 65MWe plant and each would be capable of powering around 130,000 homes.
John Seed, Chief Executive said, "The site on Humberside is only the beginning for us and our growth plans include other UK sites and selected opportunities in Southern Africa".
Helius Energy has undertaken significant research over several years into fuel burning characterisation and it will use its expertise and its technology to produce electricity based upon proved power generating methods.
